Mystery Trip – Sunday 28th February 2016

A group of daring Social Club Members took up the Leap Year Challenge and went on a Mystery Trip to………..Wentworth Garden Centre & Historic Walled Gardens!  Whilst it was a little bit chilly, the sky was blue and we even saw some sunshine.  Pictured below is Joyce looking at the variety of plants and getting some inspiration for her garden.

Opera North Social Club Trip – February 2016

On what was a cold and miserable night in Leeds, a group of Social Club members were transported to the sounds, sights and sunshine of a 1950’s style cafe in Italy for a very special show at the Grand Theatre in Leeds!  L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love) by Donizetti is a comic opera – a classic “rom com” which was funny, touching and uplifting.  Beautiful music performed by the orchestra with oustanding world class opera voices told us the story and we were all engrossed!  Having the advantage of subtitles on TV screens at the side of the stage allowed us to follow the Opera which was sung in Italian.  Everyone had a marvellous night and we were very privileged to receive tickets from Opera North via their Encore Scheme that would have normally cost £30 each.  We were able to offer this trip to our members with door-to-door transport for £10 per person.  One member commented “Opened my eyes to Opera in a way not seen before – would go again!”  We hope to arrange further trips to see Opera North productions, so if you are interested please do get in touch with us and we will keep you informed of future trip.  Our contact number is 0113 2889000.

FDM Social Club Trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park

On Remembrance Sunday (8th November 2015) FDM arranged for a group to travel to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to see the Poppies: Wave sculpture that is currently on display.  This is a sweeping arch of bright red poppy heads suspended on towering stalks which rise up from the Lower Lake and over the Cascade Bridge.  The exhibition will be there until 10th January 2016 and this trip was suggested by some of our Social Club members. Although the weather was not the best, everyone had a wonderful day and were able to pay their respects during a special service of Remembrance which included poetry readings.
